From Sicily to Brisbane a story of the Cali family

When in Sicily we were recommended a wonderful Pasticceria in a small town of Piedimonte Etneo on the east coast. It was recommended by our friend Nino in Taormina.

And it was sensational. Here are a few excerpts from our blog.

"And of course, pasticceria cafes are usually outstanding. This one in Piedimonte Etneo called Cali was recommended to us and was amazing - filled with only locals and once they knew we were Australian treated us to freshly made cakes on the spot and then gave us a tray to take home with all of their other freshly made pasticceria - ricotta filled cannoli etc.

Mamma Cali making a special treat - zeppole - like a warm honey flavoured donut! Of course she insisted on us each trying a piece!

Fresh doughnut straight out of the oven with a cafe latte. The owner's son Mario Cali lives in Brisbane and has a restaurant at New Farm (sorry we don't know the name)."

Well we had a person contact us recently and Laura turns out to be the daughter in law of Mrs Cali. Her husband has a restaurant in Brisbane.
Mario Cali has a fabulous Italian restaurant called Marco at 299 Sandgate Road Albion, http://www.restaurantmarca.com.au/

Small world. Here are some pics of Marco and the restaurant
