Natale a Montalcino

Christmas in Montalcino

What a wonderful opportunity to spend our first Christmas in the hill top Tuscan town of Montalcino.

As you enter Montalcino in Piazza Cavour the garden is resplendent with a nativity scene and these three interesting characters for the children as it was the last day of school.

And the creator of the nativity scene

Very proud of his annual creation

Putting on the finishing touches to the presepi (nativity scene)

And again an interesting character collecting for charity

Before Christmas each quartiere puts on an "Auguri" dinner for the members of the quartiere to get together

Some friends from Pianello

A happy event with very good food (and vino)

Two local members

And Piero cutting up the panetone with gelato inside for desert

Montalcino was also colourful with street decorations

Piazza del Popolo

And then Christmas day with wonderful food, wine, joy and surroundings!

Even the pansies were in full bloom

And gifts delivered by friends

Brunello of course

Chief Chef in the cucina

Well, well, well...what is the apprentice chef doing slacking on the job

A beautiful table with our very own Christmas tree!

Antipasto to begin with or was that the prosecco we started with?

And even the chef gets to eat Christmas dunch (dinner/lunch)

Another Brunello?

And on the day after Christmas a lovely concert with a baritone and soprano in Chiesa San Pietro

Allora cari amici

Buon natale e Buon Capadanno
